It can wait. But I can't promise it'll be piping hot.
[ He should've guessed. Charles lives at the Foundation more than he lives at home, meanwhile Erik prefers to be surrounded by the homely things he's made for himself. Still, he thinks maybe he ought to install a bed or something. ]
Any reason you wanted to let me know this right now or was your plan to get me to come over right this second to start drafting plans?
[ There was a part of Charles that genuinely regretted his work-a-holic ways. Lord knew that back in their world, he was the homebody, while Erik skipped around the world, putting the miles on his various passports.
There was a guilty pause, that probably suggested that he had rather meant to jump into the project sooner, rather than later. But before he let that pause go far enough to leave Erik jumping to that conclusion, he sent. ]
Do what you can to keep it warm. I'm on my way as we speak. Is there any of that good bread left?
[ Erik flips on the oven to preheat and pilfers the 'good bread' from the breadbox, carving a few generous slices for his friend who has probably forgotten to eat since morning last. ]
It's warming in the oven.
[ And yet it's a sort of... quiet late, with all the animals asleep, and Charles out of the house. Erik finds that his thoughts at this hour are always a little... dramatic with his vulnerable state of suggestiveness and dream. That's saying a lot. But he has a lot on his mind and the conspiracy theorist voices in his head are quite loud right now, as he tries to shut it off and get some peace. ]
When are you leaving next?
[ He asks this because he used to be this. Charles is in a constant state of packed, ready to go. Erik's not used to being the one left behind wondering. ]
I hope not for a few weeks yet, [ Charles offered and in this mode of communication, with Erik, he allowed some of the tiredness to leak through. ]
Most of my business affairs are now secured and I can run them from here. The plans I have for some expansion of the Foundation will also want my attention here. So I don't expect to be traveling again for at least a month.
[ There was an idea tickling at the back of his mind, but it was going to require some more thought, before he moved to articulate it. ]
I'm bringing home some of the Foundation's accounting ledgers. I think you may find them an interesting read; over soup.
Yes, I know. The soup will be here when you get back.
[ And so will Erik. Though when Charles returns, he will be seated on a kitchen chair with the pot at a simmer, arms crossed over his chest and legs outstretched, having lost to the battle of drowse.
For now, he keeps his friend company instead. ]
You're giving me one month to put the danger room together?
